Why are the downtrodden such arseholes?

I live in a a fairly depressed area. Not really as there are more people moving in here with cash because they can't afford to buy a house anywhere else.

But there are still a lot of people around here who are still loitering at the bus stop of averageness. Figuratively and metaphorically. I have a next door neighbour who likes to talk about how she likes anal sex. Not something you hear every day, but good luck to her. I caught a glimpse of her the other day. She's doesn't have a head like a slapped arse - there will be some sick-o out there now having an belt about that.

On the bus home (strangely more so on the way home than to work), there is always a cavalcade of society's problems. Pungent stenches abound, so do drugs, and people who have less than average social skills. I am reminded of the line from Janus Two: I'm not anti-social, I'm real social, just ask my mates!

Anyway, every night there is some arsehole off their chops on the drugs waiting for the bus. Yesterday, bloke and his lady friend waiting for bus. Overheard this snippet of conversation:
She - Fuck, I've got no fucking money
Him - *drawling* just tell the driver you've lost your purse
Interestingly he was carrying a number of shopping bags.
They tried it on, and were knocked back - and like a Christmas miracle found the cash for a ticket.

Lots of people get on with out a ticket, and don't give a shit. The bus driver doesn't care, and no one else does. I buy one, I even pre-purchase to save time. Maybe I should jsut become an arsehole and not buy one.

I was sitting on the bus another time and a guy got on. He sat up the front, and pulled out a bottle of beer from his bag. He drank it like I drink a stubby. Once it was finished with, he simply threw it out the open door (the bus hadn't moved) and opened another one. What's up with that? A lot of people drink on the bus, some even try to hide in a brown paper bad, most can't be arsed. And no one gives a shit, so it's a spiral of no shit giving and silence equally agreemnet with their actions. But if you said anything to them you are likely to get knifed.

Another time, a couple got on. Sure they are afflicted with an addiction to drugs, but FFS I don't need to hear this from his lady friend: You said that if I fucked her in front of you, you'd love me more. That is a true quote. And I turned up my iPod. And looked out the window. I've seen her a few times without her man, and she is a pitiful sight. Old before her years. But she probably doesn't want my sympathy.

There is one lady who gets on the bus, when she is lucky enough to be let on, and goes into the city and begs. When they boot her out of the city, she begs near a bank. She lays on the ground with her head against a window (must be mega uncomfy) and says 'spare change'. It's not a question most of the time, but a statement.

Rudeness. They push and shove and swear when they don't get what they want. Like children. The downtrodden are also more snobby than me, now that's saying something! But they are. They abuse everyone and anyone. I don't make eye contact with anything, anymore. The people from ethnic origins are the bad ones, it's the white fellas who are the pigs. They must be banging on about how hard they are done by. I used to work in the retail meat industry, I can tell you that there are plenty of jobs going. But most of these people would rather get cash for doing noting than doing something.

That's a pretty radical statement from someone who votes Labor and believes in social justice. Oh well, the older I get the more shitty I become. There's a bloke outside Flagstaff station who sells the big issue. I don't buy it because I don't like the magazine, but he is there selling it. He's doing a great job. I sometimes see him around other places and he's trying to make a difference to his life. And he isn't an arsehole off his chops on the drugs. Or trying to be a big man by abusing someone or tagging a train.

That's enough for now.
